So, I'm looking for a fitting #FLOSS Mastodon client on Android.
Started off with #Mastalab which I quite liked in the beginning. Crashes related to GIFs and the often really slow updating of the content streams were rather annoying though, so I kept looking.
Next up was #Tusky and it appears to be the one so far. Slim app and fast at what it does. 👌
There still is #Twidere which I have not tried for Mastodon yet. Any other apps to take a look at?
@trwnh thanks, going to take a look at it even though the anti-feature warnings (non free dependencies, tracking) in the #FDroid repo by @IzzyOnDroid are rather off-putting.
@CryptGoat @trwnh or wait a few days. New Tooter in town "Twilatte" should show up at F-Droid in a few days.
And yes, those AntiFeatures kept me off that app as well...

I've just installed it. Small and lightweight, can do Twitter, Mastodon and Pleroma (though I don't know the latter). Takes a little "getting used to". Maybe not the first choice if you only need Mastodon.
I'm using Tusky on my other device and for now prefer that. But things might look different after havin used Twitlatte for a while. Works quite smoothly (just a little bug that for me Mentions is empty on Mastodon, but not on Birdie).
@IzzyOnDroid oh *twiTlatte, yeah, I've seen that already in the play store and I don't like the ui
@trwnh OK, sorry for the missing T (I was on mobile). For alternatives, may I recommend a look at my corresponding app list at https://android.izzysoft.de/applists/category/named/network_twitter#group_1113 ?
@IzzyOnDroid yeah, i've seen/tried all these :p
@trwnh Oh. Mind to make a "comparison blog"? If you do please let me know the link, I'll include it on my page.
As I wrote, I currently favor Tusky. I thought to give Mastalab a look. But crashes whenever there's a GIF (as @CryptGoat wrote) is a no-go. What's wrong with AndStatus and Twidere? All others are either not available at F-Droid (yeah, I'm a Playstore boykotter whenever possible) or had no updates for a long time.
@IzzyOnDroid @CryptGoat nothing wrong with those 2, decent if you need twitter access and want unified timelines across multiple accounts. i just don't need/recommend them usually because like you said tusky works fine (with the most active development). the downside of those 2 is that they don't fully implement many mastodon features beyond the basics.
@trwnh @CryptGoat Twitlatte seems quite basic as well (but from your comparison certainly even more than those other two I guess?)
I got one thumb-down on AndStatus from @kuketzblog but unfortunately he forgot to write why (with Mike one always assumes security background, though here I rather guess "personal preferences").
@CryptGoat @trwnh go for it, it just turned up!
@CryptGoat unfortunately #twidere project seems dead, so #tusky as you say seems the best.
@davideBriani Is #Twidere really dead though? Issues at their repo are still actively managed.
@davideBriani And while I was writing here another client for #Mastodon and #Twitter popped up in #FDroid: #Twitlatte by @moko256. https://f-droid.org/app/com.github.moko256.twitlatte
@CryptGoat @moko256 #twitlatte is interesting. I'll try it!
@CryptGoat Subway Tooter, if you want feature completeness and a very barebones UI
