I'm absolutely stunned when i see people doing electronic distance learning, but haven't agreed on some basic standards to collaborate after 5 semesters.

@Drops I think it's quite common. Finding a common technological basis for cooperation sounds easy, but it is fraught with problems. Ideological: FOSS\Proprietary; Time Investment: learning to use other peoples tools costs time; Platform Incompatibilities and so on.
