terminology wrt sexual abuse of minors
I’ve just noticed somebody using “child molesters” instead of “pedophiles”, and it strikes me as an important distinction to make. Because yeah, not every pedophile automatically becomes a predator, right? (I can’t seem to find any numbers though.)
Now, is there a comparable term that we could use in German that’s gender neutral and not unwieldy? The best I can come up with is “Kinder Misshandelnde”.

Nicht jeder, der sich an Kindern vergeht, ist ein Triebtäter und die wenigsten sind tatsächlich pädophil. Zum einen sind Kinder leichte Opfer, zum anderen geht es bei sexualisierter Gewalt oft nicht um Befriedigung von Trieben, sondern um Machtverhältnisse.

Sidenote, ich finde es super, dass du dir darüber solche Gedanken machst. Stigmatisierung von Paraphilien und psychischen Problemen ist nie gut, erst Recht nicht bei so einem gravierenden Thema.
