Was hältst du davon? strato.de/cloud-speicher/studi

A very interesting article by of the Problems with , and why we should take care and reconsider using and supporting it: blog.linuxmint.com/?p=3766 (scroll down to Section "Snap").

In a few words:
- Ubuntu starts replacing by empty dummies that install a Snap behind your back
- Snap therefore gets a requirement, although Canonical promised, it should never replace apt.

controls the Snap store completely. Publishers like Spotify point a user to the Snap store. What if Spotify stops distributing the .deb? We're dependent on a governed App Store on Linux, not different from today's mobile platforms and .

Canonical could require a UbuntuOne Account for downloading from the Snap store every moment. Or maybe lock the store to users. And you're not able to review, modify, pin, patch, mirror a snap.

Just finished preparing my presentation for the European Parliament on Tuesday. I’m representing @Mastodon and small technology there on a panel to discuss the future of the Internet and I hope we can get the regulators to at least not fuck things up for our ethical alternatives.

My slides (not hugely meaningful without the narrative but in case you’re curious) are here:

Remind me again why I let you talk me into this, @Gargron? ;P

A very nice example of why I have a high opinion of the BSD(Can) community: mwl.io/archives/4772 – not only because the auction as @mwlucas describes it is hilarious, but also because by describing and explaining it, he opens the door for newcomers to the community.

Fun way to find random documents. Go to Google search, and search for

filetype:pdf the

Feel free to replace the word "the" with any other innocuous word. You'll get a bunch of random PDFs.

Another fun constraint:

filetype:pdf site:org the

This will return PDFs by ".org" domains (mostly nonprofits) so you get a bunch of random reports.

Also try

filetype:pdf "internal use only"

@fdroidorg Why is a different version of an app suggested than the current version? Can publishers select which version is "suggested"? I'm asking because my phone wouldn't update @Tusky from v7.1, although v8 is available.

From the PostgreSQL manual:

"The first century starts at 0001-01-01 00:00:00 AD, although they did not know it at the time. This definition applies to all Gregorian calendar countries. There is no century number 0, you go from -1 century to 1 century. If you disagree with this, please write your complaint to: Pope, Cathedral Saint-Peter of Roma, Vatican."

I cannot believe that sentence.

"The books will stop working."

I keep saying it and it sounds worse each time.
