A very interesting article by of the Problems with , and why we should take care and reconsider using and supporting it: blog.linuxmint.com/?p=3766 (scroll down to Section "Snap").

In a few words:
- Ubuntu starts replacing by empty dummies that install a Snap behind your back
- Snap therefore gets a requirement, although Canonical promised, it should never replace apt.

controls the Snap store completely. Publishers like Spotify point a user to the Snap store. What if Spotify stops distributing the .deb? We're dependent on a governed App Store on Linux, not different from today's mobile platforms and .

Canonical could require a UbuntuOne Account for downloading from the Snap store every moment. Or maybe lock the store to users. And you're not able to review, modify, pin, patch, mirror a snap.

*Hoping that a commercial institution to respect our interests and being fully dependent is NOT the way Linux was meant to be!*

is a great idea, but we should handle and watch it with care.

@fdroidorg Why is a different version of an app suggested than the current version? Can publishers select which version is "suggested"? I'm asking because my phone wouldn't update @Tusky from v7.1, although v8 is available.

Things we didn't do:
- Start the fire
- Shoot the deputy
- Steal the cookies from the cookie jar

Things we did:
- Tried to fight it
- Shot the sheriff
- Put the sham in the shama-lama-ding-dong

Things we will do:
- Survive
- Rock you
- Walk 500 miles
- Walk 500 more

Things we won't do:
- Get fooled again
- Back down
- That

Things we will never do:
- Give you up
- Let you down
- Run around
- Desert you

From the PostgreSQL manual:

"The first century starts at 0001-01-01 00:00:00 AD, although they did not know it at the time. This definition applies to all Gregorian calendar countries. There is no century number 0, you go from -1 century to 1 century. If you disagree with this, please write your complaint to: Pope, Cathedral Saint-Peter of Roma, Vatican."

Reminded that the Microsoft ebook store closes next week. The DRM'd books will stop working.

I cannot believe that sentence.

"The books will stop working."

I keep saying it and it sounds worse each time.

I'm so glad I'm using so seldom.

Please quote me by that.

Windows rant

Todays Episode: Custom created desktop.ini-Files for chaning folder icons won't work. My folders containing graphic resources should show the preview image as the folder icon. Setting those manually is tedious (traversing multiple menus, no shortcuts, much mouse-work).

Generation by shell script doesn't work. Found out that file and folder need to have "system" and / or "read-only" attribute. What the heck? Don't know where these are documented, but setting those gives no change.

I use once a month in average, for design. And every time I feel like I need to puke. Not only that working with Windows is much slower than (animations, less shortcuts, less responsive). Then there's still lots of and undocumented "features" that let you play the guessing game. Not to mention all the issues.

I wonder why people still *want* Windows.

Es reicht! Ich baue mir jetzt meine eigene KLIMAANLAGE!

Just had a "nice" discussion with a "nice" guy that called me a dumbass for not supporting .

I don't care if one supports trump or not. But I care about .

We are the majority on the fediverse. So let's stick , and don't let , , , etc. get a chance!
