Heard the story of the girl throwing starfish into the ocean? A man watching her says "don't you know there are miles of beach and you can't make a difference?"

The girl bends down and scoops up another starfish and gently throws it into the ocean, turns to the man and says "it made a difference to that one".

I often think of this story when world events make me feel powerless. I can't help everyone, but I can help *someone*.

So... if anyone needs me to throw them into the sea, I'm here.

Nazis, ableism, history of eugenics in context of pandemic

And I will remind you that non of the Allies or the USSR saw a problem in eugenics which only targeted disabled people. „Pure Ableism“ was and is absolutely okay for all of them. And the post-war Soviet Union even sent disabled people, many of them veterans, to penal camps, because they „didn‘t contribute to society“, because of being disabled and often not able to work, but in need of care. And because they were a real revolution danger.

Nazis, ableism, history of eugenics in context of pandemic

I remind you: The Nazis killed (and other things) disabled people systematically. After the „spanish flu“- Influenza pandemic.
„Rassenhygiene“/ Eugenics was a fundamentally ableist strategy and then was used to also render other marginalized people as „sick“ and „of no use or a danger for society“, for example LGBTQ+.
And of course they used it to portray Jewish people as „inherently sick“.

Sarcasm ableism genocide

Funny, how it’s never considered genocide when society just doesn’t give a fuck about ongoing preventable mass death of disabled people. Mass murder. Just like disabled people are just insignificant things. Your ableism shows.

#stadtnatur

What with the thing about reintroducing wolves and the thing about French people filling in the holes in golf courses, I love the idea of planting lots of endangered trees (illegal to remove) very fast on a golf course and then running away, who's in

"It’s bad enough we have to live under the crushing weight of a world that repeatedly says we have no right to exist - but the way y’all INSIST on gaslighting us and telling us it’s all in our heads is just beyond.

BELIEVE. DISABLED. PEOPLE. ABOUT. OUR. OWN. LIVED. EXPERIENCE."

"This is why shrugging off what is now TWO overlapping pandemics (and the potential for a third with the Polio resurgence) is so terrifying to many of us who are disabled.

Because we know the history.
Because we see the writing on the wall.
Because we know what comes next."

"And if your gut instinct is to respond to this by saying, “but it’s still a stretch to think we’d just kill disabled people or leave them to die off?”

Look around, you’ve ALREADY shown you’re comfortable with mass death as long as “they had preexisting conditions though.”"

Certain people are less deserving of the right to be included in our society, because of their inability to contribute to capitalism in narrowly defined ways."

"Capitalism is our core value, and as we’ve MORE than illustrated throughout this pandemic, when a body exists too far outside the capitalist system, we no longer see a duty of care towards it anymore."

"Part of the reason disabled folks seem so DESPERATE when we’re begging folks to get this pandemic under control is because we know what happens next is a more systematic extermination of the “burdens” on the overtaxed healthcare system. Don’t believe us? Take a look…"
