more millennials and zoomers need to read douglas coupland to understand why gen x was so ineffectual at challenging the system in which they lived, rather than trusting gen xer's own statements about "population deficit" and other bullshit

@a_breakin_glass I'd skip all his later work - read maybe "shampoo planet" through "all families are psychotic"

and take them for what they are: myopic novels about white people by a white person

but as that, they're damn useful

i also think catch-22 is underrated as a book by our contemporaries, it more informs the boomer mindset though

@a_breakin_glass looking at his bibliography now - eleanor rigby apparently came later but is worth the read, too, but I don't know anyone who's read it without getting angsty so heads up there
