The new fields workflow coming up in Blender 3.0 is pretty rad! The top part of this node system makes a six-sided cylinder, the bottom part distorts its vertices depending on their Z position!


If you look carefully, you can see the profile of the cup modeled using a "Float Curve" node! Tilt your head to the right, and focus on the dark part of the curve above the x-axis!
