CORRECTION: Björn Petersen is @bj01n@twitter.com on twitter and r10s on github. Sorry everyone. Identities and handles are complicated 😅 But a universal identification system is worse 😜 We can be different people in different contexts and nobody should a-priori hold the power to correlate.
Sidenote: most other messengers would have spent at least four separate blog posts for the new iOS features :) If you prefer more verbosity and engage with background ongoings: checkout https://support.delta.chat or join #deltachat , thankfully managed by the good @freenodestaff@twitter.com
Delta Chat for iOS is evolving only for one year, compared to 2-3 years Desktop and 4 years of Android developments, originally started by @r10s@twitter.com. End 2019 he migrated his devices to Apple to lead developments ... no surprise iOS is catching up greatly :) https://delta.chat/en/2021-02-04-ios-is-catching-up
Some of the techno-philosophical underpinnings of our takes on decentralization are inspired by and well expressed in "Decentralization: An incomplete ambition" from @ntnsndr@twitter.com https://osf.io/m7wyj/ -- high recommend!
For those interested in bleeding edge Rust development on decentralized protocols ... tomorrow is a coding livestream regarding the ongoing Rust porting of the @dat_protocol@twitter.com -- with which we share interests and some developer intersections :) High recommend. Great folks.

I'll do a livestream on the @rustlang@twitter.com port of @HypercoreProto@twitter.com with @okdistribute@twitter.com tomorrow 👋we'll go through the stack, discuss async rust & p2p approaches with @dignifiedquire@twitter.com and find our next steps. we're actively looking for new contributors also 🙂 https://twitter.com/dat_protocol/status/1355988820714377217

With Delta Chat you can now communicate with Spinach. Beat that, other messengers! :)
RT @euronewsliving@twitter.com
Plant-human communication is finally here...and it's wonderfully weird. 🥬
Spinach has been engineered to send emails when it finds specific compounds.
This tech could be used to detect landmines, pollution, and even upcoming droughts.
The ultimate superfood...!

We have a tiny fraction of Signal's or Whatsapp resources, only started many years later and have to deal with many different e-mails server behaviors. Yet we are closing the gaps. How? One reason is that we adopted @rustlang@twitter.com - and here is some genesis: https://delta.chat/en/2019-05-08-xyiv#the-coming-delta-chat-rustocalypse

Store operators have a centralization bias. They control app distribution and the OSes running on phones. This controlling mindset lets them want apps with centralized services, running through their clouds and requiring approval for everything. Which can be withdrawn in a wimp.

Google have suspended Element in the Play Store without notifying us; we're reaching out to find out what's going on. Apologies for the inconvenience; in the interim there's https://f-droid.org/en/packages/im.vector.app/ but it's a few versions behind. We'll post updates here.

Cory is at it again and makes no prisoners ... rather suggests us as prisoners to demand free movement.
The e-mail server network presents a vast and diverse migration space and we are to bring crypto-secured automated e-mail account migration UX to our apps. #guardens_unwalled

Using Facebook - or any walled garden - is like getting trapped in East Berlin. FB legally terrorizes anyone who dares make a tool that creates interoperability between its service any its rivals.

It is too easy to block central services, not only in Iran (currently happening) but many other countries increasingly attempt to block and succeed in doing so. The problem is real. VPNs help but make things more complex and costly. Centralization has real human-rights costs.

Update: @signalapp@twitter.com's website was blocked by TIC and the app is blocked on ISP level. https://twitter.com/Ammir/status/1353644795139411970
How safe it is to use Delta Chat? Nothing has changed about our stance to user data: we don't have it, not even encrypted, and also no traffic data. Nada. Nothing. Nilch. You insist? Please refer to any of the hundreds of thousands of e-mail servers. Cheers to decentralization :)

Russia asked for access to Delta Chat user data ... so we had some explaining to do :) Cheers to decentralized app designs and the e-mail system's separation of apps and message transport, something that Whatsapp, Telegram and the likes fail to offer ... https://delta.chat/en/2020-05-01-roskamnadzor

A thread on hackernews about Delta Chat -- nice to see it's quite well-informed. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=25893626
Apart from Google Play where Delta Chat just passed 100K downloads, the Android app is also available on FDroid, as direct apk, and through several national or region-specific stores, like Paskoocheh which just published a promotion video.
