Each of @email@example.com @ProtonMail@twitter.com @TutanotaTeam@twitter.com @SpikeNowHQ@twitter.com come with their own apps *and* servers. By contrast, Delta Chat apps use the e-mail server of *your* choice and have provider-independent e2e-encryption through https://autocrypt.org - implemented also by other e-mail apps.
I've been experimenting with @delta using a temp address. I'm impressed with the UX and and the unique way it resists censorship.
Oh, an interesting take :)

Cuba just suffered widescale internet outages for a few hours (seems to come back now), and Facebook/WA and other services were unreachable. However, folks could continue to use Delta Chat -- we know from some of our user feedback chats. Resilience does matter.
Internet in #Cuba is down, starting at 12:05pm Cuba time.
Since end 2020 @Facebook@twitter.com banned linking in FB posts to https://delta.chat stating "violation of community standards". Multiple people filed complaints but nothing happened, no responses, no explanations, nothing. Please help (RT/like or comment how to proceed). Thanks!
FTR @firstname.lastname@example.org is friendly competition to us as we have good personal relations with folks there. They propose a new system while we use the largest existing open communication system (email). We work with minimal funding while Matrix uses VC funding. May both succeed! :)

CORRECTION: Björn Petersen is @email@example.com on twitter and r10s on github. Sorry everyone. Identities and handles are complicated 😅 But a universal identification system is worse 😜 We can be different people in different contexts and nobody should a-priori hold the power to correlate.
Delta Chat for iOS is evolving only for one year, compared to 2-3 years Desktop and 4 years of Android developments, originally started by @firstname.lastname@example.org. End 2019 he migrated his devices to Apple to lead developments ... no surprise iOS is catching up greatly :) https://delta.chat/en/2021-02-04-ios-is-catching-up
Some of the techno-philosophical underpinnings of our takes on decentralization are inspired by and well expressed in "Decentralization: An incomplete ambition" from @email@example.com https://osf.io/m7wyj/ -- high recommend!
For those interested in bleeding edge Rust development on decentralized protocols ... tomorrow is a coding livestream regarding the ongoing Rust porting of the @firstname.lastname@example.org -- with which we share interests and some developer intersections :) High recommend. Great folks.
I'll do a livestream on the @email@example.com port of @HypercoreProto@twitter.com with @firstname.lastname@example.org tomorrow 👋we'll go through the stack, discuss async rust & p2p approaches with @email@example.com and find our next steps. we're actively looking for new contributors also 🙂 https://twitter.com/dat_protocol/status/1355988820714377217
With Delta Chat you can now communicate with Spinach. Beat that, other messengers! :)
Plant-human communication is finally here...and it's wonderfully weird. 🥬
Spinach has been engineered to send emails when it finds specific compounds.
This tech could be used to detect landmines, pollution, and even upcoming droughts.
The ultimate superfood...!

We have a tiny fraction of Signal's or Whatsapp resources, only started many years later and have to deal with many different e-mails server behaviors. Yet we are closing the gaps. How? One reason is that we adopted @firstname.lastname@example.org - and here is some genesis: https://delta.chat/en/2019-05-08-xyiv#the-coming-delta-chat-rustocalypse
We're moving our chat platform!
Store operators have a centralization bias. They control app distribution and the OSes running on phones. This controlling mindset lets them want apps with centralized services, running through their clouds and requiring approval for everything. Which can be withdrawn in a wimp.
Google have suspended Element in the Play Store without notifying us; we're reaching out to find out what's going on. Apologies for the inconvenience; in the interim there's https://f-droid.org/en/packages/im.vector.app/ but it's a few versions behind. We'll post updates here.
Instant Email Messaging - the largest decentralized messenger. Chat over e-mail and head back to the future with us!
