Some people have called out git send-email as being difficult for new programmers to get the hang of. I usually respond to this by pointing out that the speaker didn't always know how to use GitHub, too - and as someone who often reviews pull requests from new GitHub users, that workflow is confusing and takes time to learn, too.
But, this notion was disproved another way: someone just sent me a perfectly formatted patchset via the git.sr.ht patchset submission UI, with no hands-on instruction, and told me later that it was their first-ever contribution to free and open source software.
Announcing the SourceHut project hub 🎉
I don't usually explicitly ask for shares, but this is a big deal for SourceHut - the project hub solves one of our major goals for the alpha. Please help spread the word ❤️

#BSD people, we started organising regular online meetings for Spanish speakers who use #BSD or are interested in #BSD and would like to know some more.
Next one is on Monday, April 27th 2020, 19.30 (CEST). More infos at https://FreeBSD.cat (working on getting BSD.cat :-D).
Per request on Twitter, I made a couple videos on how my #FreeBSD daily experience is.
You can see them here:
(Won't upload the videos to chaos.social, to save storage to the admins :-))
You know what's bonkers? I sound like I'm technophobic, if you just hear my hot takes on surveillance capitalism and anti-consumer business practices.
But I'm not, really.
I would absolutely love to feel confident in pushing huge amounts of personal data into large AI/ML machines that try to make our lives easier. I would love to give personal information to systems that would "help me find stuff that's interesting to me."
And if that's all that these systems did, I'd be singing a different tune. But no. These systems marry that kind of talk (sometimes it's just that, too: talk) with predatory behavior and practices.
Note to self: requestee != requester :-D.
So, I wrote down how to quickly update a #FreeBSD port.
I reckon this was a very easy one :-) but I sometimes forget a couple things myself and would rather find them quickly.
Do let me know if you find it useful.
