Had to take the bus into town today, and wore a kilt. Some Delores decided to take issue; which sadly I'm used to. "Why are you wearing a skirt?!" and so on. As I said, used to it (and big scary white dude, so I have some privilege to wield), so I'm calmly addressing it with her

But then she said "well how am I supposed to explain that to my kid?!", and friends, I didn't have to say a thing, because the most awesome Black lady jumped in. She turned to her kid (I'd guess roughly 13 years old) and said "hey, why is he allowed to wear a skirt?"

Kid: "he's grown enough to wear whatever the fuck he wants"

Mom: "see?! Ain't hard ma'am"

Delores huffed but that was pretty much the end 🤣

The transphobic 'groomers' talking point that is popular amongst hateful people right now reminds me very much of the 'Black men are coming to take your women and children' line ran by racists back in the 50s and 60s.

There is this idea in whiteness that people who are not white, cis, and straight have a fascination with influencing their population. This thought is just a projection because white people have brutally perfected these manipulation methods over centuries.

From what I can see, it's yet another example of white people being deathly afraid that we will enact the horrors that they've acted on us.

And a driving force in the culture of whiteness is the fear of consequences for their collective actions.

In 2001, I met Ted. No, his name was not Theodore & he went by Ted. Ted was his legal name.

That was the day I questioned everything I knew about names. Might seem silly to some, but that day is likely why I don't struggle like other cis men when it comes to deadnaming. The rules aren't real. People will tell you what to call them.

This may sound like virtue-signaling, but the point is for other cis people to understand the rules around names aren't real. People are who they say they are.

@lilletale
A tunic sounds like it won't need a lot of adjustments :)

I would measure along the neckline in the back, plus diagonally from the top end of the neckline in the front to the bottom end of the slit, and if that's more than (half) the circumference of your head, it should be fine :)
If not, deepen the slit until it is :)

(Tell me if that sounds too confusing, then I'd make a sketch to explain it.)

@linus

@anathem

Was nehm ich denn da?

@lilletale
I'd also say that depends on the pattern and your fabric... is it supposed to be a tight fit or a loose fit? Do you pull it over your head or does it have some kind of closure? Is stretchiness in the neckline (or anywhere else) needed for putting on the garment or for freedom of movement while wearing it?

And my standard advice also applies here: when in doubt, make a mockup out of some throwaway fabric before you cut into the real one.

Allergie, Empfehlung gesucht

Bisher hatte ich u.a.

Ye gods, people who want to not give a shit about others' feelings have really poisoned the "Relationship Anarchy" idea

RA is not "all relationships are eternally undefined and I should be able to act however I wish without you getting upset at me". You can do a that if you want, but calling it "RA" is dishonest at best

RA is, fundamentally, rejecting predefined relationship roles/types and saying "only the people within this relationship get to define what it is and how it works; and we don't have to commit to never changing that"

exactly how you approach that idea is up to you. But if you choose to do something inimical to the concept, then calling it RA is dishonest and I have no reservations about calling you out on it

I’m looking for ways to connect the ends of arbitrarily cut (aka ) strips (like in the first image) to jumper wires (aka connectors) — without(!) soldering.

Basically I’m looking for something like these clip-on thingies that connect two strips, but I don’t want to connect two strips, I want to connect one strip to a (or something).

If you know of any clever alternatives, I’m open for suggestions, but again: no soldering.

Boosts appreciated.

COVID-19 transmissibility, surveillance state bootlicking

Contactless transactions sound great, and surely no contact is better than contact! But they're only contactless until you're asked for your PIN, at which point you're touching something other people have been poking their fingers at all day.

Banknotes do not typically pass through many hands in the timeframe SARS-CoV-2 can survive on them.
