This mastodon provider list
in fusion with "the green web foundation API" could show us how green the fediverse is right now.
To do this by hand and to use the pads we created the last month seem now unnecessary, ... if this will work!
I would do it directly but I'm not skilled enough.
We need someone who can do this for us!
Someone here who knows how it could work?

is it somehow possible that the "Mastodon instances and network API" and "The Green Web Foundation API", are making some little love ๐Ÿ˜
... so that we can see how green the fediverse is? ๐Ÿ˜

Welcome @OSEGermany !

So, inviting others to the can make this space much more interesting! :)

for what we fight here?
>>> ecological digital transformation

Not only is it still terribly frustrating to investigate the energy sources used by websites/servers, but also the information available about #GreenWebhosting on the internet is either old or extremely fragmentary.

Just look at the Wikipedia article which cites an article from 2008 (!!!) that predicted data centers' environmental footprint to eventually outpace that of aviation:

For those who are interested in , this could be another adress to host your fediverse instance.
The "location in provides nearly unlimited natural energy resources", "geothermal and hydropower".
Thanks to @unflocked

"The latest research predicts that by 2020, the web hosting industry will produce more pollution than the airline industry."

thanks @t_aus_m

Are servers from , , and running with ?

If not, why are most of the green movements using these platforms, while any click could mean they are using fossil energy! I think it's not in their interest!

Maybe they haven't thought about it yet?
Could it be an argument for the ?
What do you think?

@switchingsocial Thanks for this ecoCaring on our lovely #fediverse. I don't know intances but a hashtag. Check #greenfediverse :)

We're facing a #climatecrisis.
Pushing for #climatejustice within every of our social connection is needed to may counter this emergency.

As we're users of the fediverse, what can we do to let the fediverse have an positive impact?

here an idea:

make instances climateneutral to climatepositive by:
- changing electricity provider
- planting trees
- directActions
- ...

maybe having on each instance a section that shares infos on how they try making their instance climateneutral/positive. And every instance may have different ideas and strategies to met their goal.

Could that also be an attractive reason on why to leave #facebook, #twitter... to join the #fediverse?

How can the fediverse play a role in countering the #climatecrisis?
