My opinion is: is the best we have!
Let's criticize what is shitty but also acknowledge what it has archived. There is no sense in telling people that is no better than or something like that. Signal is constantly improving and I wouldn't know how to do better.

The reality:
While the vast majority of people continues to use WhatsApp, a small number of users argues about "the perfect messenger" that doesn't exist.

All messengers come with pros and cons. The endless repetition of points some parties dislike results in more and more people going back to WA, because it just worked and there weren't 15 "friends" trying to convert the user to use their favorite messenger.

Statements like "Oh, you still use messenger XYZ? Bye!" don't help.

@heimdall I my opinion #Threema is a far better approach. A crypto messenger based on phone numbers cannot be really privacy friendly. And Intel SGX doesn't look like a good security concept to base a messenger on.

But even Threema isn't open source, so neither choice is really good.

@ls Signal tries to become independent of phone numbers, the PIN is a first step. I also want to point out, that the pin can be longer than 4 characters, so you don't have to depend on Intel SGX

@heimdall Nope and I'll never install this piece of shit 👎 That's all for now,I'm getting bored of naming thousands of reasons again and again only to get ignored anyway.

@nipos @heimdall Thesis: People calling out Software like with phrases like „piece of shit“ are part of the problem disapproving great steps and accomplishments achieved by people like Moxie and of course dozens of others.

Not realizing with its various half-finished clients is and will not be the solution for the problems we have and nevertheless advising against huge steps forward discrediting the efforts of those advocates will result in endless standstill.

Yes, Benham's “great steps” & “accomplishments” started with #Googlesharing (well, actually before that with the #SSL crap that he milked the shit out of).

Not sure if you're #trolling, don't mind if I block you in any case. 🤦🤦🤦

You could do better than read that @infosechandbook guy's blog. He might be well intentioned (at least I haven't seen any indications to the contrary) but his competence in security (and information technology) matters is rather lacking.

Mind, proper #infosec tends to be dry and mind numbingly boring, not the kind of thing that makes good blogging material.

If you're in uni there's a good chance you can attend an elective course or two to satisfy your curiosity in the subject.
