I am rearranging my social media accounts! (Thrilling, I know.)

@iona - public account, mostly to do with radio and geography and anything else I've spotted around and find interesting/fun.

@iona@queer.garden - personal account, followers-only, for personal stuff and politics.

Thank you!

If you are a musician or sound artist and you urgently need 'native' support for audio uploads on mastodon, you can (and please do!) vote (thumbs up) or ideally write a short comment on the issue on github: "Allow users to post audio files #4827"

It looks like support is almost there but still not really implemented. Votes for this can raise the priority of this much needed feature.

If you’re a UK resident or citizen, and don’t want #Brexit, sign this official petition: Revoke Article 50 and remain in the EU. petition.parliament.uk/petitio

(Keep trying if the site goes down - bots are regularly overloading it)
#stopbrexit #revokearticle50petition

To watch the numbers without overloading the site, use livefrombrexit.com/petitions/2

The numbers aren’t updated often because the petition site servers are struggling. :-(

I'd like to find out who invented the "Recently Used" file list.

Then take them behind the bike shed and beat them senseless with a rubber chicken.

I was getting tired of the cookie and privacy warnings all over the Internet, so I learned how to hide them: Using uBlock Origin, go to its preferences -> Filter lists -> open the "Annoyances" section -> activate "Fanboy's Cookie List" -> click "Apply changes".

Will someone please buy my graphics card? I want it gone and there don't seem to be takers on eBay!

This is the card: asus.com/uk/Graphics-Cards/STR

Used ones seem to be selling between Β£80 and Β£120 online, Β£70 to you.

It works perfectly fine and hasn't been used that much - I just don't need it and would rather have the money. Let me know if you are interested! UK and Ireland only.

β€œOver the long haul I fully expect the influence of music-oriented radio to diminish. Because music, my friends, is a commodity. Not only can anyone string together a playlist, but nobody can string together my favorite playlist better than I can.”

β€œWhat it all adds up to is the gradual near-obsolescence of music radio, not in a blink, but by a slow and persistent siphoning of audience and attention and interest and advertisers. This process will take years to happen.”

-- Mark Ramsey (2008)

Local BCB radio in Bradford is once again doing its all-women-all-day Radio Venus programme for International Women's Day.

They are looking for women to go to radio workshops, learn new skills and get involved with both the day itself and the wider station as a whole. I have checked with the station director and this is very much trans inclusive.

If you are in Bradford or nearby and interested, see: bcbradio.co.uk/radio-venus-201

Not sure whether it's just my instance or if it's a change across all of Mastodon but my instance just had an error and showed a static error image instead of that horrendous flashing elephant banging on a computer.

Whoever is responsible for getting rid of it, thumbs up from me πŸ‘

It saddens me immensely to notice that Lucy Wayland isn't amongst us anymore. She was a strong fighter for diversity and inclusion, and through that an inspiration. Rest in Peace, Lucy.

Today is UNESCO World Radio Day! πŸ“»

diamundialradio.org/

This year's theme is "Dialogue, Tolerance and Peace" and radio stations around the world have been putting together programming on that theme for broadcast today.

Radio is still massively important, especially in developing countries, and even in the West community radio is still an amazing way to bring diverse groups of people together in creative pursuits.

Have a look what your local station is up to: diamundialradio.org/events

Thank you so much, everyone! πŸ’–

I have made it as far as Β£160 and only need another Β£40 to make sure I don't have to worry about bills for the rest of the month and I can concentrate on stuff that matters.

You are all so lovely!

I really don't like doing this, but my university application - coming as it did at the end of the month - sucked the last Β£18 out of my bank account.

I have got nothing until the end of February and I have two job interviews and (hopefully) a university interview to travel to. I need Β£200 to pay outstanding bills and survive the month. Every tiny bit would help.

I am a trans NB person trying to dump old baggage and start again with life now that I know who I am.
