Hi! This is my 'alt' account for personal posts that I don't want boosted to the entire world.

I'm still posting about radio and media over on @iona but you'll find more personal stuff over here.

Posts on this account are predominantly followers-only but feel free to send a follow request if we've at least interacted a little bit!

Hey everyone, my Airbnb has cancelled for my stay in Leipzig from the 26th-30th for the #ccc #35c3

Does anyone have any leads on anywhere to stay for an extremely poor hacker?

Boosts appreciated :_earth: :psyduck: :ancomheart: :_gayheart2:

Does anyone know what happened to @bexxi? She last posted on 23 November. I'm a bit worried because she didn't post that she was going on holidays or anything.

It has come to my attention that the National Library of Scotland has a wonderful website of archived maps, not just of Scotland.

I could spend hours on here.

I am really sorry to have to do this again, but I need help getting through this month.

I am starting work tomorrow at the postal sorting office about 12 miles away but they don't pay until the end of December. As with all these things, I have to pay to get to work but they don't have to pay me until I've done the work. I don't have enough in the bank for petrol or food until then.

Any tiny amount of money would help me through the month.

The company name on the PayPal link is because this is my only PayPal account. The money will be used only for personal expenses (the aforementioned petrol and food, and my prescription drugs for this month). The business listed is not operational at present because I'm concentrating on this month's work.

I don't want to write an essay, but my anxiety is bad enough at starting a new job with new people in a new place without worrying about my card getting declined at the supermarket too.

#Mysuru city's bike sharing system, #TrinTrin ( the first in India) uses #OpenStreetMap in their station maps. Properly attributed, too.πŸ˜‰

I've seen a lot of bikers here, especially young students. Even if there's no cycling infrastructure available.

Unfortunately, you need some paperwork to get a smart card that can let you hire the bike.

This is all the shite that comes with the Walk magazine published by the Ramblers charity. Twelve flyers, including some that are literally an extra stapled magazine, and a plastic bag.

A charity with environmental aims should perhaps look at reducing the amount of glossy paper and card that gets sent out with their mag and put straight into the recycling bin.

Apparently, it's a US Thanksgiving tradition to play the song "Alice's Restaurant" on the radio, especially on college and indie radio stations. Here is a very long list of stations all over the USA that are playing it: radiosurvivor.com/2018/11/20/a

The song also gave its name to an influential London pirate radio station of the 1980s, documented here on Stephen Hebditch's excellent AMFM pirate radio archive site. amfm.org.uk/pirates/alices-res

When I'm tethered to my phone via 4G during a cable outage, web page loads are actually snappier than via Virgin cable and pings are faster. This is despite the fact that I'm tethered to the phone via wi-fi and connect to the cable modem with an Ethernet cable.

Download speed is slower (~50Mbps rather than 100Mbps) but I don't download a great amount of stuff. There is a mast at the end of the street, which helps.

I'd stick with 4G all the time and cancel Virgin if it weren't for the data cap.

My Virgin internet is having its third lengthy outage this month. I wouldn't be so bothered, these things happen, but the price has just broken the Β£40/month barrier for their cheapest broadband-only package.

I don't want to sign up to a new fixed-line contract because I'm moving, but does anyone know of any good 4G internet deals at present? All the networks but Vodafone are fine here. I like the idea of 4G because it can move with me when I do.

My laptop is completely bare of stickers.

I am not in a position, geographically or financially, where I go to tech events where they give out such things.

So I am making a request! If anyone has any fun stickers they want rid of, especially anything to do with LGBTQ rights or free software, let me know. I would love to brighten up my computer. 🌈 πŸ’»

I thought that my German friends here might appreciate this dreadful birthday card joke I've received today. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ πŸ’œ πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ
