Does anyone of the #8bit #commodore cracks know what these plastic bits are for on the #c128 keyboard? 🤦
Today I'd like to complete the red #C64 refurbishment. I already carefully rinsed the case with water. The CPU, SID, and VIC got heatsinks. I bought new screws, so the mainboard is properly fixed to the bottom shell again. Now it's time to clean the keyboard. #retro #retrocomputing
#Amiga4000 repair plot twist: I FRICKING FITTED THE NEW LOGIC CHIPS IN REVERSE… Deep breaths. 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ (On an amusing side note, nobody noticed when I repeatedly posted pictures of the area…)
I’ve been using lots of flux, that’s why it looks a bit messier than it is still. I’m going to clean up properly after some more testing.
#Amiga4000 repair progress. Added a number of additional bodge wires, triple checked all connections in the battery area, fitted new (nicer) RAM sockets. #Retrocomputing #BatteryDamage
(I‘m also going to clean up the flux residue. In this state, it looks even worse than it actually is… 😅)
Moar bodge wires. I think I have all the connections on the ICs fixed up now, still some smaller components to check and rewire. Phew. The adventure is going to continue tomorrow. #Amiga4000
#Amiga4000 progress. De-capped and re-capped. Now for the tedious bodge wire part. #Retrocomputing #Repair #Restoration #BatteryDamage #VartaDestroyerOfWorlds #Amiga #Commodore
Replacing electrolytic capacitorps now, then I’m going to slowly put replacement components in and wire the connections back up that were eaten by Varta. Wish me luck! 🤞
This is (going to be) fun. "Some" bodge wires are needed to bring this one back to life! #Amiga #Amiga4000 #Repair #Restoration #BatteryLeakage #VartaDestroyerOfWorlds

Good Morning, Everyone!
Today's retro pick is the "PET 64" also known as "Educator 64-1" or "CBM 64".
It's basically a Commodore 64 in a PET case.
Rumor has it that the NY state education department demanded a more heavy, solid case for the educational Commodore 64s used in schools as these seemed to "disappear" due to their compact size and light weight. Also, by recycling PET cases, Commodore could present an educational version of the C64 at almost neutral cost.
The Kernal has been modified to display a monochrome, black and white screen as well as displaying all sprites in the color black. This can temporarily be undone by using the following Poke:
POKE646,PEEK(646)OR128
Otherwise the mainboard used is an ASSY 326298, Revision A
Later models of this system used a color monitor but production ceased in spring 1983.
Happy to see all the unboxing pictures of the #Mega65 in the last couple of days. It’s a beautiful machine! One thing though: what’s with that label? Kind of ruins the look in my opinion. Should really be a flat metallic sticker like on the original Commodores. What do you think?
I repair/hack/make/destroy stuff on YouTube. Retrocomputing, VintageAudio, Tinkering. As unprofessional as it gets. Toots in English, underständs Germän. C64 rules.
