Hunting down a bluetooth bug all day and after hours of work still no improvement.

The darkest of UX patterns. Interrupt what people actually want to see (their feed) with a thing that sounds like it’s good, with a big obvious blue button that will make it go away, while uninformed users are actually “opting in” to invasive, privacy-destroying tracking.

Is this a question? Because it doesn't seem like I'm able to say "no".

@danie10 interesting. "(ISPs) have been instructed by the local government to force their respective users into installing a government-issued certificate on all devices, and in every browser." How do they enforce this? It's not like users think "oh the gov. wants to record everything I'm doing? I'm installing your root ca right away!"

@devurandom Sadly not. There are for example parts of iOS that are foss, but there is no way to compile and run it. The right to modify does not automatically allow you to run your own compiled version on the same hardware. (iOS has a bash shell for example). Also with open hardware there has to be still someone who manufactures your modded design. With more complex things you are probably stuck with the original hardware.
Apple for example holds back a lot of userland software to avoid GPLv3.

personal opinion: any hardware or software that (either)

1. deals with someone's personal or information security

2. goes into someone's body

should be open source and community-modifiable/upgradable.

@devurandom I think this gets especially important with brain interfacing.
So I would add:

3. You should be able to truly own implanted hardware (e.g. have root access)

@linuxjournal afaik only Hessen (a state of Germany) has banned it. Or did I miss something?

Glad you asked!
1. Pages load twice as fast
2. Laptop battery lasts longer
3. My privacy isn't invaded by 50 different douchebro Silicon Valley companies
4. Your fucking site doesn't slow down my computer to a crawl and I can actually read your fucking articles

@Corben78 I would appreciate if you could report on the user experience on Linux with non native games like Beat Saber. Haven't seen any reviews or impressions of the index from a Linux user yet. Have fun!

@dansup i accidentally navigated to twitter instead of tweetdeck and was shocked too. Guess I have to use mastodon more then.

Show more - because anarchy is much more fun with friends. is a small Mastodon instance for and by the Chaos community surrounding the Chaos Computer Club. We provide a small community space - Be excellent to each other, and have a look at what that means around here.
