Looks like a snake, but ain't one: The slowworm (Anguis fragilis) is a lizard that's lost its legs during evolution.

(Oh, and it was really slow indeed.)

@kernpanik i love these. we get them in our garden down in our veggie plot. they're a protected species in the UK and i choose to assume it's because they're cute as heck

In Germany they are called

Blindcreeper (?)

Blind - unable to See
schleichen - to creep (walking silent?)

I am funny surprised about the word slowworm😂
