i forgot SOS electronic from SK which are also good and sometimes have extremely good pricing.

(yes, this was about the Samsung Horticulture LEDs)

Mouser works just fine for me usually, but apparently everything is slowed down right now in TX. Digi-Key also supports it but someone apparently had a major heart-attack when they saw my latest order and now they think i'm a front for shipping export controlled goods or smth.

Show thread

hey , anyone know electronics distributors which allow orders to be billed and shipped to different (EU) countries? my lab and company country code are different and most distributors can't deal with that.
🔁 welcome

just ordered a dozen, that half-year lead-time and the low qty pre-ordered by Mouser don't look too promising 😬 gotta hodl some ST stonks if i want to build anything in the future.

Show thread

they gotta do the whole "embedded world 2021" dance i guess. can't just give those mere mortal engineers some heckin datasheets. nyeh.

(i don't want to be angry about datasheets all the time...)

oh nice, ST finally released the STM32G0B1 and STM32G0C1 with USB and CAN-FD.

i guess the C1 has the crypto extensions but is otherwise the same. aaand apparently only distributors have infos and not the ST website *sigh*

i'd rather finish up that LED controller project, but i don't want to invest the remaining work in it until i know if digikey wants to sell me them or not. fun fun fun.

Show thread

that will be awful to rework in case i mess up >.>

schematic in progress.

i'm doodling a motor controller again because i still haven't finished that project...
the plan is to put the high power parts (and bulk capacitance) on an alu-carrier PCB which will then be screwed on a heatsink.

it's a "i'd rather make footprints/symbols/models instead of design the damn thing" kinda day...

tfw a part being still preview means the datasheet is preview too (i hate single page datasheets with a passion)

Here we go, after 1.5 years and a pile of c++ code later I'm pleased to announced my basilisk story is FINISHED!

AliExpress is in fact run by the Ferengi. it all adds up: fraud, counterfeit goods, fishy special offers, flashy banners

electronics nonse

i like this a lot. i finally have achieved a solution which is: efficient, simple, low-cost and doesn't compromise on the features that are important to me :3

sometimes you can have the cake and eat it :D also i should eat something,,

i have found a three channel constant current sink (AL1783 from Diodes) which, given an 48V source and 16 LEDs in series, will be more efficient than a buck converter. This is pretty much as optimal as it gets i think. Very low BOM costs, fault indication, pwm and just three resistors plus the ic.
also i can just use the same heatsinks i used for my luminiaire boards.

first will be more plant light experiments, trying to go for optimising cost/lifetime/power use and the second will be some lights for portable use. both are nice high efficiency LEDs with ~220lm/W.
