you just finished building your own PC and turning it on for the first time.

And the display stays black. No beeping warning sign or anything.

Anyone recently build an AMD Ryzen 3 220G CPU System and ran into similar problems? Mainboard is an ASUS Prime B350 - PLUS.

I probably found a possible solution for my new home server problem.

Why does my new AMD Ryzen 2200 G CPU not boot on my ASUS motherboard?

Because. asus.com/support/FAQ/1035627#

Good thing I do have a AMD Ryzen 1700 in my own new computer. The home server is for a family member. Now all I need is to switch processors, update BIOS and then switch back. It's 2018.

@luricaun
Ah sorry, knew that could be an issue but missed it last time. But afaik AMD sends upgrade CPUs if needed.

@sandzwerg
Indeed they do if needed. But luckily I have an AMD system myself so I can switch to upgrade right now. Wish me luck.

@sandzwerg
Well... After putting my AMD CPU and my graphics card in the system I finally could see something on my display and am updating bios right now.

@luricaun
Wonderful. Are you putting the 3x12tb in that beast?

@sandzwerg
Indeed. And the family member got another two of those beauties at home which I will add to the raid 5 later on. So nettó probably around 42 TB.

@luricaun
At that size it might be worth to think about a raid 6, because else replacing a disk might be really difficult. In the other hand backup is the bigger concern

@sandzwerg
Backup is probably not an issue because this data will be outsourced. It's a good hint nonetheless and I will explain the differences to my brother although I think he might be take the chances with raid 5.

@luricaun
I remember thread done years ago when 4tb were state of the art were people would calculate their chance that one of their disks dies during rebuild and I remember it to be quite high on the other hand maybe not even one disk dies on you so 🤷

@luricaun This is an annoying, but known, problem -- motherboards that don't say "Ryzen G-Series Ready" will require a BIOS update. Some have that functionality built-in (and don't require a processor), but most lower end ones don't. AMD has a program where they'll send you a low end bristol ridge APU if you'd rather not go through the hassle of disassembling your personal machine and have the time to wait for shipping.

This is the down-side of not requiring new boards per generation/line.

@luricaun and...i'm real late, you already switched out and performed the update. sorry for the late information!

@nickchapman
No, on the contrary. Yes, I already managed to get my shit in order but others might find it useful.

So don't worry. Your toot is very much appreciated.
