I'd really love if the fediverse had a circles feature like google+ once had.
I'd love to control who of my followers can see my toots.
How hard would it be to change the protocol? Is this even remotely possible?
@maralorn
Hmm I see why'd you like it but it would be very surprised if something like this would come. Different accounts or closed accounts seems to be the current solution. Maybe there will be instance only toots somewhen but that's also not what your looking for.
@maralorn multiple accounts are well supported in Twidere (android app), perhaps that is the easiest way, in case you don't have a lot of circles? (say: one account for work and one for friends)
@amenthes Sometimes I want everyone to read a toot and then I would to post with both. And I also like the idea, that subscribers don't know in which circles of mine they are.
@maralorn Diaspora* had aspects (which were essentially circles as far as I can tell), and I am not sure I want those back. May have been their implementation, but I found them confusing as hell.
.@amenthes Interesting. I think I like this aspect thing. But does diaspora federate with mastodon? I am a bit overwhelmed by all the protocols out there.
@maralorn Diaspora was _THE_HYPE_ of 2010, which they never fully delivered on. It always felt very unfinished, unpolished and complicated. A few years later most of the original team were gone. There's still development there, but I when I login, everything still feels as clunky as it did five years ago.
fyi: feature request is here: https://github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/issues/7182
