Docker is an attack on computing freedom
The purpose of Docker is not, in fact, to make things easier for us as systems administrators. It's to make it easier for the folks writing and packaging software to force you to treat the software as a black box instead of making their software easier to build, configure, and use.
I don't care if you find Docker more convenient as an open source user or developer. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance, and you're being lazy.
Nothing can make me as happy today as this post by Erik Bernhardsson, in which he simulates buffet lines to figure out the best queueing method. It involves simulation by way of random food emoji (and a bunch of graphs). https://erikbern.com/2019/10/16/buffet-lines-are-terrible.html
Amazon AWS had a power failure, their backup generators failed, which killed their EBS serversl, which took all of our data with it. Then it took them four days to figure this out and tell us about it.
Reminder: The cloud is just a computer in Reston with a bad power supply.
The Apollo missions carried some Hasselblad cameras, but they were far from the stock item that left the factory. https://hackaday.com/2019/08/06/recreating-space-cameras/

Berkeley burrito-delivery bot purported to be using 'advanced neural network' is actually remotely piloted by Colombians, who are paid $2 per hour.
Welcome to capitalism, where tech startups fake 'genius' AI using hidden POC sweatshop labor in a 'black box' to rake in profits.
"AI, games, Amazon, it's all made with magic! In our magic black box!"
"What's in it?"
"Nevermind, just eat your kale salad and let's do yoga!"
*Open box, find a sweatshop*

And this is Earth, as seen from Saturn, 1.44 billion kilometres away. Taken on July 19, 2013. So technically, this one photograph contains every human who's ever lived. Right there on that little blue fleck of light.
Earth is tiny. We should really take better care of it.
DECT ist korrekt... Richtig geil.
Many of the actions listed in the indictment, such as holding encrypted chats, concealing a source’s identity, or using secure drop boxes, are part and parcel of journalism in the digital age, Human Rights Watch said.
We think of plants as stationary beings, but they're not. They just live on different timescales to animals like us.
All plants move, their leaves jostling amongst each other, trying to catch the optimal amount of light. But mostly, we don't notice.
Sometimes, I catch my plants moving when their leaves brush past each other. Usually after I adjust their lights, the fussy little things.
~=8 Character Passwords Are Dead=~
New benchmark from the Hashcat Team shows a 2080Ti GPU passing 100 Billion password guesses per second (NTLM hash).
This means that the entire keyspace, or every possible combination of:
...of an 8 character password can be guessed in:

"The big DNS Privacy Debate at FOSDEM" by Bert Hubert.
I love his proposal to distinguish between the protocol DNS over HTTPS (DoH) and the application of said protocol DNS over Clown (DoC).
(It's misspelled as DNS over Cloud in the blog post though.)
This is one of my favorite old locks, used to secure registered mail containers. It can be picked, but that’s not the main security function. It has a counter that advances whenever it’s opened, making it difficult steal mail undetected. It’s essentially a re-usable seal.
I'm in Belgium, sitting in a German train on the way to Germany, on the next platform there is a French train on the way to the Netherlands. #LoveTheEU
