Wouldn't it be wonderful if there was a Mastodon instance hosted under the europa.eu fomain where you could follow all the diverse people in Europe working at the EU parliament, the working groups, etc.?

So... after 2.5 years of owning a Thinkpad T400, first librebooting, then gradually modifying the shit out of it, I have to say that an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU is still completely sufficient for everything I'm doing today.

Everything packaged for Debian still runs perfectly smooth. And yes, this includes all the games.

I'm saying this because I want to make a stand against planned obsolescence and new hardware craze. Your old machine is very likely still fine. Please use it a little bit longer 🙂

You can now get the data #Threema stores about you in JSON format:
threema://compose?text=info&id=*MY3DATA and hit send. That's quite neat 👌

#Federation #Fediverse

Problems we are having with #Signal:
* It is and will remain centralized (clear strategy of *not* federating servers)
* It requires strong identifiers/selectors (phone#) to use
* Author disallows distribution by anyone but Google, although free/libre
* It keeps pushing away verification of fingerprint in interface
* It relies on Google+Amazon infrastructure
* Its funding is shady (OTF = Radio Free Asia = USG)

= clearly unethical choices, unjustifiable by accessibility or technological reasons.

Was kann da schon schiefgehen?

Still looking for that alternative? by @grote just had a major rewrite and features a new design. The new version 2.0.0 is currently available via custom repo and Play Store but the official F-Droid repo should follow suit soon.

By all means, #movingtogitlab-dot-com does not solve the problem GitHub has (centralization), and moving to a privately hosted GitLab re-introduces the problem GitHub mostly solved (separation).

#GitPub is trying to solve this problem by defining a federation protocol for git services: github.com/git-federation/gitp

If you're concerned about #Microsoft buying #GitHub (and you should be) please do not simply move to GitLab.com (the hosted #GitLab instance), it also runs on MS servers, (Azure) - always self-host GitLab, or if it's too heavy, go with Gitea.

Whatever you do, do not simply move from one silo to another.
