#Cyber recipe for today:
3 Thinkpad X200 laptops
24 GB of RAM
3 240 GB SSDs
3 Atheros AR5B95 WiFi chips
1 RaspberryPi
1 SOIC-16 clip
Mix components carefully, flash #Libreboot for 60-90 minutes, add 100% free OS.
Enjoy three refurbished privacy- and freedom-respecting machines 🤓
@spudboy Yes, but the X200 mainboard only supports up to 8 GB... This is still plenty for most users though
@resist_berlin cool, i'm interested in foss gaming, tho i doubt a lot of video cards are supported. i'll look into it
@spudboy I play a couple of games on my librebooted T400 (with a CPU upgrade to 2.93 GHz) from time to time. Only the stuff that comes with Debian though, so nothing too fancy: OpenArena, Minetest, Warzone2100, Torcs, 0AD etc. but it's certainly fun, and very satisfying to do this on a completely free machine 😊
@resist_berlin that sounds cool, been meaning to try these arena games. i wonder how well it runs OpenSim (foss Second Life)
@resist_berlin Where and how do you find the nice big SSD’s?
Thanks!
@Shufei Just look on eBay... there are usually refurbished SSDs that work just fine, but there was a price drop for new ones recently so I'm going back to using them. 75€ for a new 240 GB Sandisk Ultra II SSD seems very reasonable.
@resist_berlin does libreboot support more ram than that?
