Just decided to ditch birdsite for the next week completely. Kudos to @blinry for the idea!

Perhaps we could... erm... organise that? If someone would like to join, that is!

#ditchbirdsite

rixx 🏴 @rixx

@TQ @blinry Definitely joining y'all.

@blinry @rixx Open for input! Aber ich mag es eigentlich. ;)

@TQ @rixx @blinry @vanecx
what about
First it sounds strange. But every Twitter user will know what 140 means. 140 as a bottleneck.

Or ?

@necrosis @rixx @blinry @vanecx It might not be that important to the users. The sites differ in so many ways, and to me 500 characters was never that important.

@TQ @rixx @blinry @vanecx thats true. Most Twitter users did not want, that Twitter abolish the 140 limit.

@rixx @blinry @necrosis @TQ 2 hasthags should solve this issue : one to say you leave twitter, one to say you join mastodon (like a #byeTwitter #helloMastodon simply)

@TQ @necrosis @blinry @rixx For the day, eventhoug I understand the "quick need" argument, there is one event next month : "On May 22, Twitter shareholders will vote on whether to investigate a radical proposal: Turning the social network into a cooperative owned by its users"

@rixx @TQ @blinry wenn du die Hashtags und dazu packst hast eh den besten clickbait. xD

Aber eigentlich sind wir ja zu anständig für solche Methoden. ^^

@necrosis @rixx @TQ @blinry A few observations : "ditch" is more difficult to understand for non-english speakers than "bye", so I'd recommend a simple "byeTwitter" hashtag. Also, what about deciding of one day in, let's say, one month? So people can take time to inform everyone and save their contacts etc (and the hashtag & date will have time to be known here&there). My 2 cents.

@vanecx @necrosis @TQ @blinry

I'd still like to keep "birdsite" in there. I like the sound of "ditch", but I think that could also work (yay alliteration!)

In my experience, announcing a hard cut works best (and then not checking back to re-tweet stuff as I do atm >.<). Doesn't need to be forever, but going for a week is a very clear signal.

First draft, harsh criticism welcome: morr.cc/woolly-week/

(Just trying out the hashtag to see how it looks like. sounds so final and a little business-speak-ish, is rather long and somehow a little emotionless. Would love to hear your thoughts on this.)

@blinry I'll reply only to you, then. I'd like to add two instances, namely witches.town for LGBT+-activists, and awoo.space as a safe space with very strict rules and moderation. Most ppl from my bubble can identify with these two instances, the rest is heading for octodon or chaos.social.

Under "fun things to try..." I'd add a paragraph about having multiple accounts. And you can add my account to yours to help people. :)

@TQ Warm ACK to all of this! :) awoo.space seems to have closed its registration, though?

@blinry Looks that way, yes. Well, they should be mentioned at least for their whitelist, I think.

@TQ @blinry does chaos.social have a defined user base yet? Or just "awesome people"? 😄

@TQ Added witches and awoo, a multiple accounts hint (suggesting tenforward, among others), and you! :)

@blinry I prefer a more positive # too :) I'm not ready to delete my twitter yet. So woollyweek is much better than ditch the birdsite :pp @TQ @rixx @necrosis @vanecx @winniehell

@winniehell @NinahMarie @vanecx @necrosis @rixx @TQ Any other remarks/ideas? Would publish it otherwise! :)

@blinry @TQ @rixx @vanecx @NinahMarie @winniehell
what about the issue one cannnot delete its account on mastodon?
If someone decide to leave the network, he will be upset maybe and warn other ppl to join our campaign.

@necrosis @blinry @rixx @vanecx @NinahMarie @winniehell

True... I've got a short article (german) about the limitations of Mastodon in the pipeline... Perhaps I'll finish that one first and we add a link there?

@necrosis @winniehell @NinahMarie @vanecx @TQ @blinry

I think we could mention this, but only as an aside. Not really scared of backlash from people who tried it and didn't like it - more scared of people who won't try it at all.

@rixx the people who don't try and have an opinion about being here are grrmlbblllaarfgghh! @necrosis @winniehell @vanecx @TQ @blinry

@necrosis Awesome, I'll add you! It's , though! 😅 I'll add a note! ^_^

@necrosis @rixx @TQ Oh, it's an AE ("wooly") vs BE ("woolly") thing. Should we go with the AE version? That's how I would have written it intuitively, as well.

@blinry @TQ @rixx @necrosis imho wooly looks nicer, even if it's the improper way to write it :P

@maggo @necrosis @TQ @blinry "woolly" looks better to me, but I seem to be a minority here. Does that word ever appear in any mastodon documents?

@rixx @TQ @necrosis @maggo In the context of hairy, large animals, the Internet is using "woolly" almost exclusively, so let's go with that. :)

I'm gonna mention 1000 instances/400,000 users, then we can launch! :3

@blinry aye! Add me to the list :D

@maggo Done, I'm glad that you're joining us! :)

@necrosis Yeah, that's how I understood it! :)
