On average, our instance's local timeline is nice and has a cool overview over our local accounts and activities. Sometimes though, single users post a *lot* in a short amount of time (bots, too). Imo many of those posts should be followers-only, since they'll still reach the people they're meant for, without spamming the local timeline.
Not sure how local timelines have developed on other instances, but I'd be interested to hear about yours! #boost
@rixx on our instance, there is a lot of chatter about *BSD related topics, plus my baseball posts ;). I've been trying to keep on top of bots abusing the public timelines, seems to be working out.
There does seem to be a small-ish community of people interacting with the Local timeline, which I greatly appreciate.
@rixx Slightly off topic, but I've wished for a scheduled toot feature (like Tweetdeck has), because when inspiration strikes and when it makes sense to post don't always coincide.
I hadn't considered that giving people tools to spread things out would also improve the shared time line!
My request was shot down IIRC because people thought only marketing types would use it...
@HerraBRE in a similar vein, I was today thinking about the implications of adding an optional expiration date to toots.
@rhys I think that's a great idea.
@dajbelshaw @rixx No, I don't want to give some third party access to my account. Other than that, sure? ๐
@HerraBRE This deserves reconsideration. The tumblr queue isn't only used by marketers, not by a long shot. FWIW there is a scheduled toot feature for #Mastalab on Android and there is an open feature request for a queue and for scheduled boosts. But it would be better if this feature were in the core IMO. #mastodev @rixx
@rixx "unlisted" doesn't show up on public timelines, too, no?
@rixx here in toot.berlin is that fefes blog bot in the local timeline. the frequency is relatively low, compared to the bots you might have thought of, i guess. its still more frequent than the rest of the userbase all together, but personally i am not annoyed by it.
@rixx i would like if bots are not unlisted
@sandzwerg depending on the volume IMHO
@tercean I'd probably be okay with low volume but even then it it's interesting for me I'm gonna follow anyways
@rixx Hm. Tbh, I do not look too much at the local timeline. Also, it wouldn't bother me to see a sea of posts from one or some users - better than an empty timeline.
