If you've ever mentioned working in the tech industry online, there's a good chance you're being indexed by this company, "human predictions". humanpredictions.io

Just a head's up. Massive privacy violations abound.

I knew stuff like this was going on, but it's a bit of a fucking wake-up call to realize this is how recruiters have been reaching out to me with unsolicited job opportunities. And I am legitimately scared that this is still the tech future we are living in.

Our privacy is sold to the highest bidder. We are simply cattle.

Here's an example from their site of the kind of information they aggregate.

Yes, their customers can see every time you follow someone on Twitter and who you follow, in real time. They aggregate your StackOverflow presence, GitHub, all connected email addresses, LinkedIn, everything.

I feel violated.

Like, this is an actual nightmare to me. This is one step away from a social credit system.

I have been stressing how hellish this industry actually is but this is making me seriously consider just giving up on it entirely.

I will never be able to live with any sense of privacy ever again, purely because I had the audacity to learn how to program.

@shaderphantom That is immensely disturbing. I guess welcome to the future, where we aren't the consumers, we're the product.

@shaderphantom thankfully it seems they have people behind the service and haven't just fully automated everything. Here's my conversation where I've asked for my information to be blacklisted (initially instigated through there on-site chat and then relegated to email).

@shaderphantom

Yah basically, except the difference between us and cattle is we have the capacity to revolt and resist

@shaderphantom FWIW this is how recruiting has been done in any company with means since before linkedin was a thing. Productization is enabling smaller companies to leverage the kind of aggregation bigger companies and recruiting firms have used for a very long time, but I'm not seeing anything new described here. It's the same kind of tech that leads you to getting coupons in the mail for baby stuff at Target before you've told anyone you're expecting.

@shaderphantom Well that explains the random waves of foolish humans asking me if I'm unhappy at $dayJob...

I wonder if we do anything to poison this particular well

@shaderphantom isn't this just the exact same thing as those shonky early to mid 2000s "dossier" sites with a paint job
