Warning: I don’t like egoism/individualists

Max Stirner is hilarious if you just assume he’s writing as a character for the purposes of comedy.

The etymology of Stirner’s pen name; phrenology; re: Warning: I don’t like egoism/individualists

Max Stirner is a pen name used by Johann Schmidt. His name comes from the Latin “maximus”, meaning “the biggest”, and the German “Stirn”, meaning “forehead”, and is a phrenology reference.

In phrenology, a larger forehead was seen as evidence of greater capacity for philosophy.

@slightlyflightyone trying to imagine a time where people had forehead insecurity. Imagine walking into a party where everyone keeps interrupting eye contact to appraisingly glance up at each other's foreheads

according to a sourced ( de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Stir ) claim in the german wikimedia, he got it as a nickname in school (because of his forehead). that would have been about the time when phrenology was popular. but anatomic noicknames probably exist since forever so..

when searching for "max stirner phrenology" this toot is the first hit. what's your source, Jamie?
