coming out-ish experiences

so some of my parents best friends are gay, one of whom they designated as my godfather. and as a kid, whenever my parents would talk about "some day when you're older and have a girlfriend" they'd also be sure to say "or boyfriend" with it.
still, for most of my life i never really talked with them about my own sexuality, like it just wasn't really an issue…
they knew of the gfs i had in my late school-age years, but afaik not the benefits i also had with a guy friend…

and it was really only recently that the subject has been broached at all, and with them separately in different ways (they're long divorced btw),...
just a couple years ago with my dad, somehow the discussion (or his monologue) came around to where he asked me about my orientation, and i (put it simply to) say that i'm bi... to which he says "been there, done that", which... meh? bit dismissive perhaps, but i'm not gonna be hurt about it or anything? idk

and only within the last few months has my mom asked anything relatedly, and it was during a discussion of sex vs gender, and i was trying to explain how people's brains and experiences can line up differently to her binary expectations, and she asked something to the effect of, if i feel like a boy or a girl?, and when i said "sorta both" she said "what have i raised?!" which, and with the tone, kinda hurt... then she dropped it and seemed to forget about it, i guess?

also i feel weird that she doesn't even know i'm bi per se (which she's never even seemed aware of as a thing), but has a vague sense that i'm sorta enby, which is also something i'm sure she doesn't grasp
