This is my current home screen in @efoundation OS. Red means proprietary, orange/yellow means open source but only available by proprietary means and green means freely available (and open source).

@efoundation Smart home is very proprietary dominated, as it turns out. Security too. Though it turns out most of the proprietary apps are from the finance or insurance corner (or somehow related to them), where there aren't many free alternatives readily available.

I guess there is some security through obscurity argument they'd make, though especially the smart home apps aren't really security through obscurity - most of those have open-ish APIs for their products. I chose to keep the proprietary apps for their firmware updating capabilities. I was also fully aware of that limitation when I purchased the respective devices.

I'm working on getting rid of the remaining red apps in the productivity folder, but migrating data is time intensive, including finding a suitable open solution and setting it up.
